Children in Tractor

Good evening Lothrop Families,

The facilities team is putting the finishing touches on the school, teachers have been setting up classrooms and inservice will begin on Monday.  Hard to believe that we will have our learners back in just two weeks!
You may have noticed through our new webpage Facebook or today’s news in the Rutland Herald that the Lothrop Community Walking Path was completed over the weekend! Local contractors and families donated time, equipment and materials to make it happen.  I want to personally thank these local businesses and our own PTO:

Charbonneau & Sons Masonry and Property Maintenance-Charbonneau Family
B K Services-Brad Keith
Florence Crushed Stone-Chmielewski Family
Mullin Family
Townline Equipment
Lothrop Parent Teacher Organization
Above the Best LLC-Alexander Family
**Pittsford Families and Residents

If you get some time in the next couple of weeks, try it out!  We still have to do a final measurement, but we are confident that it is very close to ¼ mile.

LEAP
The Lothrop Enrichment Afterschool Program (LEAP) has a new director! Known to many of our students, Mrs. Laurie Hemple will take the lead and join forces with the other after school programs in the district to provide collaborative afterschool programming.  LEAP will continue to run from after school until 5:30 PM and will be located in the Lothrop cafeteria.  Below you should find links to registration information, a fee schedule, and contact information for Laurie (lhemple@rnesu.org).  To provide a further understanding of the structure, you will see Nancy Bird mentioned as the Afterschool Program Administrator.  She will be coordinating efforts between the programs in the district and will be our expert who provides information on licensing, fee schedules and child care subsidies.  Laurie Hemple will be your point of contact for all things LEAP and either she will reach out to Nancy or will direct you to do so if necessary.

I want to thank Lori Allaire for her 6 years as the LEAP director.  She provided an excellent family-like atmosphere for our children who smiled widely each day under her care.  We are thrilled that she is not going far, as she is our new 6th-grade teacher!  Congratulations and thank you  Miss Allaire.

Virtual Learning
As Superintendent Collins mentioned, we will be offering a flexible pathway for students who wish to learn virtually.  This will look very different from last year and it will be coordinated through EdOptions Academy. Virtual learners will not be connected with their classes and there must be a commitment to attend for entire semesters.  There is a required meeting that families who wish to utilize this option must attend.  Below are two opportunities. Families will also be required to sign a virtual learning compact to ensure that the demands of the program can be met.

Chromebooks
Chromebook’s will need to be signed out through our Powerschool system.  You should receive information about how to access Powerschool and fill out the permission form in the coming days through RNESU. Our learners will be assigned a Chromebook once the digital form has been completed.  We will send home hard copies of forms for families that are not able to access Powerschool. Please let us know if you need a hard copy.

New Phone App for “All things RNESU and…. especially Lothrop”
If you have not already done so, download the new app for your Android or iPhone:

Android: https://bit.ly/3hPVjGS
iPhone: https://apple.co/3AyDxk2.

Once you are in the app you can add Lothrop School and any other school that you wish to hear from by clicking on the bottom right hand corner on the ‘schools’ button. Once you have added Lothrop School be sure that Lothrop School is highlighted so that you can see the continuous news feed along with RNESU information.  If you do not highlight Lothrop, you will only see RNESU news.  I have posted several things over the summer, so it will be obvious when you have found Lothrop!  Over the next few days, I will test the text feature.  I was trying to do so in a small way a few days ago and sent it widely.  I will let you know in advance so that you can let us know if you do not receive the test text.

School Supplies
Not all classroom teachers sent out school supply donations lists, as we had not made final determinations when most of the letters were written.  I have had a few requests about what would be helpful if a family wishes to donate supplies.  Here is the list:

16 count crayons
