Dear Lothrop Families,
Welcome to a new school year at Lothrop Elementary School! We hope you and your family have enjoyed the summer. Over the summer, our facilities team has been hard at work preparing our school for the 2026-2027 school year. We are excited to share that new windows have been installed in the Gym, Art Room, and Nurse’s Office, and renovations to the Cafeteria and Town Hall bathrooms are progressing well. Together with all of our staff, we are excited to welcome both returning and new students as we begin another year of learning.
As I step into the role of principal at Lothrop Elementary School, I feel honored to return to this wonderful school community. I look forward to getting to know each of our students and families and continuing to learn about the traditions, strengths, and values that make this school such a special place. At Lothrop Elementary School, we believe that students thrive when they feel connected to their school community and when families and educators work together toward shared goals. We value the important partnership between home and school and look forward to working together to support your child's learning. Building strong relationships is at the heart of this, and I hope you will always feel welcome to reach out with any questions, ideas, or concerns. My door is always open, and I look forward to partnering with you to ensure every child has a rewarding school year.
As always, we are grateful for the continued support of our PTO and the many ways they help strengthen our school community. Their dedication, creativity, and hard work make it possible to provide wonderful events and experiences for our students throughout the year. Looking forward, we are excited for the many things they have planned for the months ahead.
This year, our work will continue to be guided by our Continuous Improvement Plan. As part of this plan, we will focus on strengthening student achievement in both reading and mathematics. By focusing on strong core instruction and responsive support, we can help each child make meaningful progress across the school year. In addition, we will continue to strengthen our Universal Practices around PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Supports) and Restorative Practices. Supporting these efforts is a team of dedicated educators and staff whose creativity, expertise, and commitment form the foundation of all that we do. We are pleased to welcome several new staff members to our team. Meghan Fox and Grace Cahill will be joining us as Special Educators, and Lydia Christensen will be stepping into the role of Fourth Grade Classroom Teacher.
Thank you for entrusting us with your child's education. It is truly a privilege to serve the students and families of Lothrop. Together, I know we will make this a year filled with learning, growth, and many wonderful moments.

Notable Beginning of the Year Events
August 26th: First day of school for Grades K-6
Grades 1-6: 8:00 AM to 2:35 PM (Learners may begin arriving at 7:35 AM)
Kindergarten: 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM
August 28th: New Family Preschool Orientation: 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM
August 31st: First Day of Preschool for PreK 4: 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM
September 1st: First Day of Preschool for PreK 3: 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Kindly note that full day preschool hours (8:00 AM to 2:00 PM) will begin on September 2nd.

Breakfast and Hot Lunch
Meals will continue to be free for the upcoming year for all families.
Bus Routes and Schedules
Bus routes and schedules will be posted on the RNESU website. If you have questions about your student’s bus route and or pick up time, please feel free to reach out to our administrative assistant, Sara Eddy (seddy@rnesu.org).
Learners may be dropped off at the school as early as 7:35 AM and as soon as an adult is present in the lower lot. Please do not let your child out of the car or wave them into your car until your vehicle is beside the yellow safe zone, unless an adult comes to your car to get your child or help them to get into the car. As a reminder, there are RNESU procedures for Idling of Vehicles.
Emergency Operation Procedures
Please see the enclosed information regarding the Standard Response Protocols in the event of a school emergency. The Pittsford Fire Department, Rescue, Police Department and Lothrop School will continue to work together to implement and share procedures and important information regarding what to do in an emergency.
