Dear Families,

I am writing today to inform you of the discovery of a mold problem found in Room 103 (Mrs. Clark’s classroom) and  to provide information about the timeline of events as well as to explain the impacts on our operations while remediation takes place.

During the week of October 6th, a foul smell was detected in the second grade classroom.  When the smell could not be identified, we closed the classroom and moved students across the hall to Room 101.  Before the source could be located, the room was sealed off.  An air quality test was performed  and samples were taken from the ceiling joist. The initial testing all came back negative.  Maintenance continued looking into the source of the smell which included taking apart the heating unit and cutting into the sheetrock.  On Tuesday, October 27th, an inspection was conducted by a local remediation company.  The initial results show the presence of mold which was immediately remediated. The mold was discovered in the wall between two pieces of sheetrock in a small area underneath the window. The room has remained sealed off while the work continues, and the sheetrock is replaced. When the work is completed, an inspection and air quality test will be done to ensure that the mold has been completely removed, and there are no other signs of mold within the room.

At this time, we have no evidence of mold anywhere besides the window area in the second grade classroom. Once we have final confirmation that the mold has been remediated and the room is safe for students, we will move the second grade students back into their classroom.

Please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind regards,

Stacey Farrington
